Unites with Industry Leaders Committed to Advancing Standards for Speech-Enabling Applications

Fremont, CA - June 23, 2003 - NeoSpeech, a provider of speech technologies for hand-held, desktop and network/server applications, today announced that it has joined the SALT Forum as a contributing member. Established in the fall of 2001, the SALT (Speech Application Language Tags) Forum is a group of companies with a shared goal of accelerating the use of speech technologies in multimodal and telephony systems. As a contributing member, NeoSpeech plans to actively participate in SALT Forum activities and working groups, utilize the group's resources and support, and add support for SALT to its suite of speech applications.

By taking advantage of the SALT specification and Microsoft's .NET platform, NeoSpeech can further support its customers' requirements for speech applications that operate across a broad array of industry standard operating systems and devices. NeoSpeech offers best-of-breed products and services in TTS, ASR, speaker verification and voice morphing, which run on a wide range of devices and platforms, including small handhelds, the desktop, and network servers.

"Becoming a contributing member to the SALT Forum is a good move for both NeoSpeech and the SALT Forum because of the expertise NeoSpeech brings through development of a product portfolio that covers so many devices and platforms. Both sides stand to gain from the relationship," said Nancy Jamison, Principal Analyst at Jamison Consulting.

"We welcome the addition of NeoSpeech into the SALT Forum and are pleased they've joined the group," said Rob Kassel, SALT Forum representative. "NeoSpeech's existing support for a broad range of platforms and devices aligns closely with our goals of encouraging the use of speech and multimodal user interfaces on many kinds of devices. We look forward to their active participation and contributions toward extending the reach of the SALT specification."

"The SALT Forum is playing a major role in advancing an open speech framework for the development and deployment of high quality voice applications. In addition, we believe the .NET platform provides the flexibility needed to integrate non-speech standards and leverage existing Web infrastructures. We look forward to working with the SALT Forum and Microsoft to deliver SALT-based applications to the mainstream," stated NeoSpeech CEO Lin Chase.

On a related note, NeoSpeech announced support for Microsoft's Speech API version 5.0/5.1 and is the latest member to join Microsoft's third party, speech technologies developers group.
